Botox® Cosmetic is an injection that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles for several months. Dr. Sattler provides Botox injections to Glendora residents as well as his patients in Arcadia and Azusa, along with a variety of injectable wrinkle fillers for non-surgical cosmetic enhancement.
What is Botox?
Botox is a purified form of the botulinum toxin. When injected in small doses, this chemical has been proven to relax the small muscles in the face that cause dynamic wrinkles. Botox works by disrupting the chemical signals from the nerves to the facial muscles.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, approximately 4.8 million Botulinum toxin treatments were performed in 2009.
Who Can Undergo Botox Treatment?
Botox is FDA approved for several different applications. Plastic surgeons typically use Botox for treating:
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
Patients age 18 – 65 are eligible candidates for Botox treatment. Those who have a known infection at the injection site or known sensitivity to any Botox ingredients are not advised to undergo this procedure.
What Happens During Botox Injection?
Before your Botox treatment, Dr. Sattler will determine if you are a suitable candidate for safe treatment. The areas of concern (wrinkles and lines) are examined and the best injection points are located. Using a proper dose of Botox, the injection is administered. Topical anesthetic is usually not necessary for Botox injection, but it can be used in select cases.
After the injection, you won’t be able to see results immediately, but you’ll be able to return to your normal routine right away; there’s no downtime needed after Botox injection. Most results can be seen by 2 weeks.
